The award winning Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach also has an award-winning floor. The hotel won an award for best family / resort hotel in the United States in January of 2019. Steward Mellon was honored to be selected to complete the terrazzo work that gives the hotel a touch of timeless class. The Hardrock Hotel at Daytona Beach opened in May of 2018.
Steward Mellon was honored to work alongside the Atlanta, GA architecture firm, Foda Design and general contractor Arco Murray.
The Hard Rock, which celebrated its highly anticipated grand opening in May 2018, prevailed over The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Fla., to receive the honor, among nearly 280 awards celebrated at a Wednesday ceremony in New York. The awards recognized excellence in 139 categories that include destinations, hotels and resorts, cruise lines and tour operators.
“The Travvy awards are considered to be the Oscars of hotel awards,” Androse Bell, Hard Rock general manager, told his staff in a congratulatory email on Thursday. “What an amazing award to sum up an excellent opening year!!!”
Hosted by travel industry communication and marketing company travAlliancemedia and its website travelpulse.com, the Travvy Awards are selected by the votes of thousands of travel agents worldwide. This year, more than 130,000 votes were cast, according to the company’s website.
“It’s a very prestigious award,” said Mark Bonn, tourism professor at Florida State University. “Travelpulse is an advertising company that connects the leisure travel brands — hotels, airlines, motor coaches, cruise lines — with travel agents, who then connect them to consumers.”
NTMA Terrazzo Award
The National Terrazzo and Mosiac and Terrazzo Association has awarded Steward Mellon Co. with a 2019 Honors Award.
"Among this installation’s assets are impressive color consistency, skillful use of aggregates, and a subtly elegant, timeless design. In a $40 million renovation, developers demolished and rebuilt the interior of this seven-story, 200-room oceanside resort. The anchoring design elements are intersecting circles in one-eighth-inch, waterjet-cut aluminum. A single white resin color was used throughout the project. A distinction in color was achieved by varying the aggregate size, and was accented with large mirror chips. The stairs were set over existing terrazzo."
