The National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association

Standards in Terrazzo Applications

By: Mark Naugle

Steward-Mellon Company is a proud member of the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association. Founded in 1923, The National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association, Inc. is a full service Non-Profit Trade Association headquartered in northern Virginia. The Association establishes national standards for all Terrazzo floor and wall systems and provides complete specifications, color plates and general information to architects and designers at no cost.

Membership in the Association is limited to Terrazzo Contractors who meet rigid proficiency standards and participate in continuing educational seminars conducted annually by the Association. Associate membership is available to material suppliers whose products comply with the standards stipulated by the Association.

It is a great deal of work, but over the past several years, I have become more and more involved in the association. I want to give something back to the industry which has been so good to me and my family. I have been a member of the Membership and Technical Committees for the past ten years. I chaired the Technical Bulletin Revision Committee for its two year project. In 2004, I was elected Zone 2 (Southeast US) Director.  Subsequently, I was named Treasurer. In April at the NTMA’s Napa, California convention, I was elected by unanimous membership vote to Vice President.
I am looking forward to working with our new President, John D’Agnolo of Northern Illinois Terrazzo and Tile, our new Treasurer, Rick Crouch of Desco Coatings, our immediate Past President, Michael Maraldo of Southern Tile and Terrazzo Co., our new Executive Director, Richard Bruns, and the entire board in the coming years.
